The socio-economic effects of the control of tsetse transmitted trypanosomiasis in Nigeria

The socio-economic effects of the control of tsetse transmitted trypanosomiasis in Nigeria

Third International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics Arlington, Virginia, United States of America, 6-10 September 1982: 515-523

A summary is presented of the findings of a multi-disciplinary team from the United Kingdom that spent 2 years in Nigeria in 1976-78 studying the effects of a programme to control species of Glossina that act as vectors for trypanosomiasis. The costs and benefits of tsetse eradication in 2 districts are summarised, and corresponding figures at the national level are given. Likely rural development following tsetse eradication is visualised.
