Uptake of organic matter by plants from plant residues decomposing in podzolic and derno-podzolic soils

Uptake of organic matter by plants from plant residues decomposing in podzolic and derno-podzolic soils

Izvestiya Timiryazevskoi Sel' skokhozyaistvennoi Akademii (6): 74-80

Laboratory and field studies, using 14C, showed that under natural conditions carbon can be taken up by plants not only as carbon dioxide during photosynthesis but also as organic compounds from fresh plant residues (such compounds include sugars, amino acids, organic acids, soluble heterocyclic compounds) and from organic residues of various degrees of decomposition (various low-molecular-weight products of early stages of humification).
