Yield response to reciprocal recurrent selection and modified ear-to-row selection of maize (Zea mays L.)

Yield response to reciprocal recurrent selection and modified ear-to-row selection of maize (Zea mays L.)

More food from better technology: 495-501

Under reciprocal recurrent selection, mean yields over two localities in each of five selection cycles of Kitale Synthetic II (KSII) and of the Central American variety Ecuador 573 (Ec573) did not differ significantly. However, Hybrid 611 (H611), derived from crosses between KSII and Ec573, showed significantly higher yields than either parent at all five selection cycles, indicating high specific combining ability for KSII and Ec573.
