A comparative electrophoretic investigation of proteins of maize leaves and grain

A comparative electrophoretic investigation of proteins of maize leaves and grain

Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Biologicheskaya 10(4): 238-243

An electrophoretic investigation of proteins of leaves and grains of some maize cv., lines and hybrids showed that supplying nitrate to the plants increased the synthesis of leaf protein components with Rf 0.22 and 0.34, the rate of their synthesis being specific for each genotype. It was suggested that the rate of qualitative change of these proteins is closely associated with induction of nitrate reduction in leaves and could be used as an indicator of the rate of nitrate reduction in maize.
