A mixed forest ecosystem. 9. Soil Diptera: temporal structure of the larval population

A mixed forest ecosystem. 9. Soil Diptera: temporal structure of the larval population

Revue d' Ecologie et de Biologie du Sol 20(3): 367-383

Dipteran larvae were sampled from the litter and surface soil of a mixed forest in Foljuif, France, over a 15 month period. A peak in population density was observed in winter in most families, with an additional small summer peak in the Cecidomyiidae. The population structure was stable during the winter, with Chironomidae and Scatopsidae the dominant families.
