Abstract
Pollen grains in pollen loads collected by bees may show poor germination. To investigate this, artificial pollen loads were made using hand-collected Camellia pollen grains in a liquid phase. The effects of the following were studied: the presence of nectar, the honey sac contents of workers, sugar solutions combined with various amounts of gluconic acid and 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid. The germinating ability of pollen grains in natural pollen loads could be simulated by this method.Author.
