Between 1966/67 and 1980/81 the adoption of high yielding varieties of rice, maize, sorghum and pearl millet in Andhra Pradesh showed different patterns. The adoption rate was fairly high in the case of rice (both Kharif and Rabi) and Rabi maize; intermediate in the case of Kharif maize and Kharif pearl millet, and low in the case of sorghum (both seasons). Irrigation was identified as an important factor influencing the adoption of high yielding varieties.
