An Oryctes rrhinoceros (L.) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) baculovirus inoculum derived from tissue culture

, : An Oryctes rrhinoceros (L.) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) baculovirus inoculum derived from tissue culture. Journal of Economic Entomology 77(6): 1610-1611

Large quantities of Oryctes baculovirus, which is used in the control of the coconut pest O. rhinoceros, was obtained in studies in New Zealand in aseptic cell culture fluids using a recently established cell line derived from the scarabaeid Heteronychus arator. When the virus was spread on a piece of carrot and fed to larvae, the LD50 for 3rd-instar H. arator larvae was 1.2 x 10superscript 3 International Units/larva.
