An advanced high density storage system for maturing and handling of cheese

, : An advanced high density storage system for maturing and handling of cheese. North European Dairy Journal 50(9): 216-220

An automated maturing and storage plant for Jarlsberg cheese is described, which uses OR cheese containers, a KONE storage system and Mekano conveyor and handling equipment. Each OR container can hold 500 kg cheese, on shelves, and can be inverted for cheese turning. The containers are handled and stored in the KONE high density, first-in first-out system on wheeled buggies, running on rails. The system is highly mechanized and automated and makes max. use of available storage space.
