Since the start of the international energy crisis in 1973, a considerable amount of effort has been put into research on energy producion from renewable resources, by both the French government and the private sector. This report looks at the extent and relative importance of the respective roles played by the various categories of economic or political bodies in fostering the research. Chapter 1 reviews the major techniques of converting biomass into energy.
