Senescent leaves of N. glauca had only 5-10% of the max. conductance of non-senescent leaves on the same plant. Guard cell pairs isolated from the epidermal peels of senescent leaves were capable of full turgor production in KCl solutions, accumulated K as turgor developed, concentrated neutral red and excluded trypan blue.
