In pot experiments with 2x and 4x forms of Prunus cerasifera varieties Desertnaya and Purpurovaya and of P. salicina Santa Rosa, the tetraploids had fewer stomata and epidermal cells/mmsuperscript 2 leaf surface than the diploids and their leaves were more succulent, having a higher water content even under drought than those of the diploids.
