Animal Production 41(1): 83-96



The variation in carcass yield of 11 Shorthorn-Hereford, 12 Africander X British breed, 6 Brahman X British breed, and 5 late-castrated Brahman X British breed steers of the F3 generation was examined in relation to growth rate and other expressions of composition when the animals were slaughtered at 5 predetermined weights ranging from 315 to 505 kg. On a fasted body-weight basis, carcass yield was shown to be related to growth rate.
