Bush control with fire in semi-arid savanna in Botswana

Bush control with fire in semi-arid savanna in Botswana

Ecology and management of the world' s savannas: 229-231

Acacia nigrescens/Combretum apiculatum savannas at 2 sites in E. Botswana were burnt experimentally. The 1st site contained typical vegetation while the 2nd contained a 14-year-old post-cultivation regrowth of A. tortilis. Each was assessed for top kill, partial kill and presence of coppice. It is concluded that fire can control bush up to 2 m high, but regrowth will occur without additional control.
