This is the first of 8 volumes proposed in a series of books on the Rhopalocera (a term the author considers is incorrect) of Europe. It contains about 6000 numbered bibliographic references to the Papilionoidea and Hesperiidae, mainly in the period 1901-83, arranged alphabetically under authors. A comprehensive subject index (systematic, by country and by key word) is provided.
