Details are reported on the application of computer-aided design (CAD) techniques for nursery plant tending robots. An automated simulator model was developed, a robot was designed for use in a factory-like workcell and the robot's gripper was retooled. Four alternative workcell configurations were modelled on the CAD system to illustrate alternative locations of the robot and the plug and growing flats, and to estimate robot cycle times.
