cAMP metabolism and lipolysis in brown adipocytes of hamsters consuming a cafeteria diet

Normal male hamsters were given a stock diet or a cafeteria diet for 8 weeks. Basal cyclic (c)AMP in brown adipose tissue was similar in the 2 groups. Adipocytes from hamsters given the cafeteria diet formed less cAMP in response to isoproterenol than did those from controls. Isoproterenol-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity was similarly decreased in membrane preparations from hamsters given the cafeteria diet.
