CIDR dispensers for oestrus control in sheep and goats

CIDR dispensers for oestrus control in sheep and goats

New Zealand, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Agricultural Research Division Annual Report 1984/85: 45

Extensive trials of controlled internal drug release dispensers (CIDRs) containing progesterone were conducted on ewes and hoggets at a number of locations. Ewes and hoggets were synchronized for natural mating and AI programmes. Retention rates of 96-99% of CIDRs were recorded at all locations. CIDRs containing a drug releasing agent, Cetiol A, were used at Rotomahana and Ruakura. As Cetiol A appeared to cause an excessive loss of progesterone during storage, its use was discontinued.
