Cadmium in Japanese quail fed earthworms inhabiting a golf course



Nutrition Reports International 30(2): 475-481



Earthworms (Lumbricus terrestris) sampled from a golf course which had received applications of cadmium-containing fungicides and Milorganite for many years contained cadmium 47.8 mg/kg (dry weight). The worms were given as 50% (dry weight) of the diet to Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) for 27 days. Concentrations of Cd in kidney, liver and muscle of male and female quail were, respectively, 13.70, 4.71 and 0.14 and 17.70, 5.29 and 0.08 mg/kg dry weight.
