Cage culture of S. niloticus in Sri Lanka: effect of stocking density and dietary crude protein levels on growth

In 24 cages of 5 msuperscript 3 in a reservoir in Sri Lanka Sarotherodon niloticus were stocked at 400, 600 or 800 fish/msuperscript 3 and fed from initial bodyweight of 22 to 30 g for 4 months on pelleted diets with crude protein 19, 20, 25 or 29% given 6 times daily at 3% of bodyweight. Digestibility was estimated in 12 tanks of 140 litres, using chromic oxide as marker.
