Calcium absorption and metabolism of dairy cattle

Calcium absorption and metabolism of dairy cattle

Proceedings of the 1986 Georgia Nutrition Conference for the Feed Industry: 54-60

When dietary intake of available Ca exceeds requirements, the percentage absorbed by dairy cows declines so that the total amount of absorption meets the needs of the animal. Thus the percentage of Ca available for absorption can only be determined on a Ca-deficient diet. Some information indicates that the presence of oxalates in feeds can reduce Ca availability.
