Calcium and phosphorus in plasma of lambs and their excretion in urine after a thyroxine load

Byulleten' Vsesoyuznogo Nauchno issledovatel' skogo Instituta Fiziologii, Biokhimii i Pitaniya Sel' skokhozyaistvennykh Zhivotnykh (1/69): 34-38

Thyroxine, 1 mg/kg, given by injection to lambs caused, after 6 h, a fall in plasma total calcium from initial 8.48 mg/100 ml to 5.39, in ionized Ca from 2.36 to 0.48 mg/100 ml and in inorganic phosphorus from 8.31 to 7.42 mg/100 ml. Given thyroxine induced on day 40 a rise in total and ionized Ca from 8.48 and 2.36 mg/100 ml to 10.57 and 4.12 resp., and in inorganic P from 8.31 to 12.30 mg/100 ml; it also increased the urinary excretion of Ca and P.
