Calcium and plant development

Calcium and plant development

Annual Review of Plant Physiology 36: 397-439

The subject is reviewed under the headings: general mechanisms of regulation involving a second messenger (Ca2+); cellular metabolism of Ca2+; Ca2+-binding proteins; the fitness of Ca2+ (over other cations); Ca2+-mediated processes including polarized growth, mitosis and cytokinesis, and cytoplasmic streaming; stimulus-response coupling in relation to light, gravity, cytokinin, gibberellin and auxin; and an evaluation of Ca2+ in plant development.
