Calcium regulation of normal human mammary epithelial cell growth in culture

Calcium regulation of normal human mammary epithelial cell growth in culture

In Vitro 20(8): 652-662

Secondary cultures of epithelial cells derived by enzymic dissociation of mastectomy tissue were cultivated as described previously Ca2+ concn. in common commercial media ranged from 0.3 to 1.8 mM, this study employed RPMI 1640 with Ca2+ at 0.46 mM and chelex-treated horse serum with a 5% solution contain Ca2+ at 0.003 mM. Horse serum at 5% maintained cells in a hormone-responsive state but did not stimulate growth.
