A model and a computer program in BASIC have been developed for variable cost calculations for comparing phosphate rock sources in dihydrate phosphoric acid production. This COST program is an extension of a BALANCE program developed earlier. The additional data inputs required for the COST program are the costs of phosphate rock, sulfuric acid, steam, process (wash) water and gypsum disposal, the overall plant P2O5 recovery, and the P2O5 content of the concentrated acid.
