Calibration of a microbial sulfur technique for use in forest soils

Calibration of a microbial sulfur technique for use in forest soils

Soil Biology and Biochemistry 16(3): 289-291

The procedure of Saggar et al (1981) for determining the microbial biomass sulphur content of agricultural soils has been modified and recalibrated for use with forest soils. The method involves chloroform fumigation of a soil sample, and measurement of the difference in extractable S between this and a non-fumigated soil. The S released from the microbial biomass by fumigation represents a fraction of the total microbial S in the soil.
