The calorific value of blades, sheaths, internodes, tassels, husks, shanks, cobs and grain of maize was measured during vegetative and reproductive growth in the field at Colmar in 1978. The av. energy content was 4.35, 4.11 and 3.98 kcal/g DW at the 6-leaf stage, silking and at maturity, resp. When ash content was accounted for these values were 5.18, 4.65 and 4.14 kcal/g dry OM.
