Calving patterns and their effects on herd production

Calving records from 35 dairy herds in the Matamata area and also the Ruakura No. 2 herd were analysed to compare calving patterns for the 1982 season, and the results of a comparable survey in Manawata in 1972 were included for comparison. For 4939, 4816 and 152 cows in the 1972, 1982 and Ruakura No. 2 data resp., 60, 68 and 77% calved within 4 wk of the planned starting date, and 20, 23 and 23% within 5-7 wk.
