Can Zaire feed herself?

Can Zaire feed herself?

Afrika Spectrum 19(3): 231-252

This article analyzes food production and marketing patterns and problems in Zaire. Food production has increased slowly over the past 20 years; however, Zaire needs to import agricultural products to feed her population. Such imports from the industrialized countries are paid for through the production of export crops (e.g. coffee) and raw materials (copper) or by incurring more debts.
