A discussion of the utilization potential of Eucalyptus grandis and E. tereticornis, commonly grown in Kerala, and the possible effects of silvicultural practices on their wood quality. E. grandis has less dense wood with larger, thin-walled fibres than E. tereticornis and appears to produce better quality pulpwood. Defects which occur when using the wood as such, and which may be corrected by selection, include surface checks, end splitting and collapse during drying.
