Can the arm circumference of mothers be an indicator of the nutritional status of their children?

Can the arm circumference of mothers be an indicator of the nutritional status of their children?

Journal of Tropical Pediatrics 31(6): 332-333

The left upper arm circumferences of 228 mothers of infants up to 15 months old in rural India were measured. After standardizing for age a regression analysis was made on the weights of the children with the arm circumference of the mothers. The mother's arm circumference measurements were significantly related to the weights of the children and to their weight for age.
