Changes in serum parameters of rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, and Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., infected with Renibacterium salmoninarum

Changes in serum parameters of rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, and Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., infected with Renibacterium salmoninarum

Journal of Fish Diseases 9(3): 205-211

Blood samples were collected from fish during 35 days after intraperitoneal injection of viable, or formalin-killed R. salmoninarum (2.7 x 107), and from starved controls. Infected fish had significant increases in erythrocyte sedimentation rate and serum bilirubin, blood urea nitrogen and potassium, and significant decreases in total serum protein and cholesterol. Sodium values were decreased in infected trout, but not in infected salmon.
