Prolactin (PRL), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and oestradiol (OE) were determined in blood samples collected from 67 breast feeding women with amenorrhoea at 1, 7, 14 and 45 days and 3, 6, 9 and 12 months post partum. Serum PRL decreased during the 1st 45 days post partum, but was still >1000 mU/l at the end of 1 yr. Serum OE decreased to approx. 80 pg/ml by day 7 post partum, and remained at this low concn.
