Controlled pollination in breeding self-incompatible populations of multigerm sugarbeet

Controlled pollination in breeding self-incompatible populations of multigerm sugarbeet

Sel' skokhozyaistvennaya Biologiya 7: 63-66

ISSN/ISBN: 0131-6397

In field and greenhouse studies of seed set in several self-incompatible varietal populations following (1) selfing and (2) crossing with sources of the self fertility gene Sf, the populations differed in self incompatibility owing to differences in the frequency of biotypes with particular capacities for self fertilization. In population V10245, for example, 55% of plants gave >10% seed set after selfing, while in V1002 the corresponding figure was 24%.
