Differences in availability to crops of cadmium in sewage sludge-amended soils compared with other inorganic sources

Differences in availability to crops of cadmium in sewage sludge-amended soils compared with other inorganic sources

Environmental Contamination United Nations Environment Programme: 595-598

A greenhouse pot experiment is reported in which cabbages and carrots were grown in a wide range of polluted and control soils, with the aim of comparing uptake from different sources of cadmium in a variety of different soils. Soils which had received heavy applications of sewage sludge showed a slightly lower mean level of availability of cadmium for uptake into the edible portions of these vegetables compared with inorganically polluted soils.
