Differences in milk somatic cell counts due to sampling methods

The somatic cell count (SCC) of bulk milk samples from 2 milkings of 14 cows were 240 300 and 192 200/ml on 2 days, but SCC in samples from individual cows ranged from <100 000 (21.4 and 28.6%) to >500 000/ml (14.3 and 14.3%), and SCC in quarter milk samples ranged from <250 000 (69-72% of foremilk samples and 41.42% of hand stripping samples) to >1 million/ml (4.5-7 and 22-23% of foremilk and stripping samples, resp.).
