Differences in surface crusting and soil loss as affected by tillage methods

Differences in surface crusting and soil loss as affected by tillage methods

Assessment of soil surface sealing and crusting: 64-71

Surface crusting differences were quantified by pore depth distribution profiles obtained by image analysis of thin sections for four common tillage methods. These results were compared to field infiltration, runoff and soil loss results obtained from simulated rainfall plots. The tillage methods studied included moldboard plowing and disking, chisel plowing, till planting, and no-tillage on a uniform silt loam soil.
