Differences in the distribution of HLA antigens in localized and generalized form of onchocerciasis

Differences in the distribution of HLA antigens in localized and generalized form of onchocerciasis

Tropical Medicine and Parasitology 37(3): 271-275

The relationship between human leukocyte antigens (HLA) and localized and generalized onchocerciasis was studied in 23 persons with localized and 24 with generalized onchocerciasis, and 12 healthy controls in Liberia. Phenotyping of HLA class 1 (A,B,C) antigens showed increased frequencies of HLA-A30/31, B35 and Cw4 in localized plus generalized onchocerciasis patients as compared to controls and a decreased incidence of HLA-A9 and B21.
