Differences in the surface treatment of timber exterior building components in the USA and western Europe

Differences in the surface treatment of timber exterior building components in the USA and western Europe

Holz Zentralblatt 111(40/41): 617-618

A report based on a comparative study of surface coatings used in the USA and W. Europe (with special reference to central Europe). In relation to pigmented paints, latex-based products are the most widely used in the USA, while in Europe oil (alkyd) paints are the most common. Semitransparent stains are generally linseed oil-based in the USA, oil-modified alkyd-based in Europe (where film-forming semitransparent stains are common).
