Differences in uptake and distribution of nitrogen in tall and semi-dwarf wheat varieties

Differences in uptake and distribution of nitrogen in tall and semi-dwarf wheat varieties

Anuario, Centro de Edafologia y Biologia Aplicada, Salamanca 11: 287-296

Total nitrogen content at maturity was similar in the winter wheat varieties Splendeur, Maris Huntsman and the semi-dwarf Hobbit variety, compared in a field trial. However, the total nitrogen content at anthesis was lower in Hobbit, which absorbed more nitrogen after this stage. Nitrogen taken up by the crop prior to anthesis accounted for 75% to 97% of the nitrogen content at maturity.
