Different approaches of modifying protein content of lucerne by selection

Different approaches of modifying protein content of lucerne by selection

Proceedings of the Medicago sativa group of Eucarpia, 27-30 August, 1984, Brno, Czechoslovakia: ; 349-351

Attempts to select for high-protein genotypes were unsuccessful as the quality of plants was negatively correlated with quantitative characters such as dry yield. However, since the protein concentration in a plant decreased with age, it was possible to increase protein yields by selecting for tolerance of intensive cutting.
