Different cytopathogenic effects of the same baculovirus in two species of Lepidoptera belonging to the same genus (Spodoptera littoralis and Spodoptera exigua)

The cytopathogenic action of 3 strains of a polyhedrosis baculovirus originating from France, Egypt and Morocco were studied on the polyphagous pests Spodoptera littoralis and S. exigua in the laboratory. The mechanism of infection proved identical regardless of the origin of the virus, but the symptoms differed according to the species.
