Different levels of bermuda hay meal in final molasses diets for gilts

Different levels of bermuda hay meal in final molasses diets for gilts

Cuban Journal of Agricultural Science 19(2): 187-191

One hundred and sixty 35 kg liveweight Yorkshire-Landrace-Landrace gilts were used in a random block design to study three levels of bermuda hay meal (0,3 and 5%) in diets containing 40% sugar cane final molasses compared to a cereal control diet. There were no differences in body weight at 120 days between the control and the 3% hay meal treatment (88,4 and 85,1 kg). The lowest weight corresponded to the 0% hay meal treatment (77,36 kg). The feeding cost per kg of gain was lower (0,31 Cuban pesos) for the 3% hay treatment compared to the control. The utilization of 3% hay meal in diets with 40% final molasses for gilts is recommended.
