Different methods of inoculating cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) at various ages with Xanthomonas malvacearum (E.F.S.) Dowson

Different methods of inoculating cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) at various ages with Xanthomonas malvacearum (E.F.S.) Dowson

Philippine Agriculturist 66(4): 337-344

The abrasion method of inoculating leaves of 20-, 40- and 60-day-old plants with X. malvacearum produced a disease index of 4 (in a possible range 1-4). Initial symptoms appeared earlier on leaves of 10-, 20- and 40-day-old than on those of 60-day-old plants, regardless of the inoculation method. The stem injection method caused the highest mean lesion length and highest percentage of infected plants on 10- and 20-day-old plants.
