Different methods of sire evaluation and effects of calving season

Different methods of sire evaluation and effects of calving season

Revista Cubana de Reproduccion Animal 11(1): 67-80

1274 first-lactation 244-day milk yields of Holstein-Friesian heifers sired by 20 bulls, corrected to a fat percentage of 3.3, were analysed. Bulls were evaluated by means of the contemporary comparison, least-squares and Best Linear Unbiased Prediction methods. The calving season was defined in periods of 3, 4 or 6 months.
