Different suitability for in vitro propagation of rose cultivars

Six tetraploid rose cultivars and three diploid lines were tested for suitability to in vitro propagation on MS-medium containing 0.1 ppm NAA and 2 ppm BAP [benzylaminopurine]. Using 10 lateral buds per cultivar at the beginning of in vitro culture and running the experiments for six months differences were found between 278 and 1.472 regenerated plants. The productivity (number of developed shoots per period of time) increased during the subsequent numbers of subcultures. Micro-shoots of all idiotypes were rooted during 9-14 days in 1/3 strength liquid MS-medium containing 2 ppm IAA.
