Differential changes of prostacyclin and thromboxane A2 synthesis in the gastrointestinal tract of the fasted and semi-starved rat

Differential changes of prostacyclin and thromboxane A2 synthesis in the gastrointestinal tract of the fasted and semi-starved rat

Journal of Physiology 376: 16P

Rats were deprived of food for 24, 48 or 72 h or were semi-starved for 9 days. Jejunal mucosa and muscularis showed a significant increase in prostacyclin synthesis after 48 and 72 h without food and after semi-starvation. Synthesis of thromboxane in the jejunum did not change. Synthesis of prostacyclin and thromboxane in the ileum was reduced after deprivation for 48 and 72 h and after semi-starvation.
