Differential diagnosis between amoebic liver abscess and acute cholecystitis using a discriminant coefficient

Differential diagnosis between amoebic liver abscess and acute cholecystitis using a discriminant coefficient

Journal of the Indian Medical Association 83(4): 113-115

Two hundred cases of acute cholecystitis and 100 cases of amoebic liver abscess were studied in order to identify features useful for differential diagnosis. Using discriminant analysis, 6 variables were selected: hepatomegaly (present in amoebiasis), Murphy's sign (absent), previous abdominal pain or indigestion (absent), history of dysentery (present), duration of pain (<more or => 48 h) and facial pallor (present).
