Differential effects of seed leachates on seed-borne pathogens associated with chickpea (Cicer arietinum)

Differential liberation of total amino acids, carbohydrates and phenolics from 3 contrasting genotypes of C. arietinum seeds was correlated with their reactions to seed-borne pathogens. The blight (Ascochyta rabiei) and wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceri) susceptible JG-62 exuded much greater amounts of sugar and amino acids than the resistant C-235 and CPS-1. The composition of seed leachates of C-235 was conspicuous by the total absence of cysteine.
