Differential Induction of Endoproteinases during Senescence of Attached and Detached Barley Leaves

Differential Induction of Endoproteinases during Senescence of Attached and Detached Barley Leaves

Plant Physiology 78(3): 442-446

Isoelectric focussing and PAGE were used to identify the endoproteinase activity of cell free extracts of senescing attached and detached barley leaves. In attached leaves there was no change in either the amount or types of endoproteinase present. In the detached leaves, activity of endoproteinases 1 and 2 increased and 4 new endoproteinases appeared in the part of the leaf nearest the cut end. These changes were inhibited by cycloheximide and kinetin but not by chloramphenicol.
